My Great-Grandparents were from Italy. Grandpa married his first wife in an arranged marriage before immigrating to the United States. They were very happy, however, his first wife died during the birth of their ninth child.
Grandpa couldn’t support and care for nine children on his own, so he went back to Italy to “find himself a wife”. He found her, she was a beautiful 22 years old! She came with him to the States, knowing he had children, however, she thought he only had two kids! Little did she know that there were nine and the older ones were nearly the same age as her!
Nevertheless, they were very happy. Grandma loved them all. They ended up having another 10 children, raising a total of 19 kids. My Grand-Mother was child #11!
The photos and stories in Brown Bag Letter are synchronized. To preserve personal history, my hope is that the anonymous photo and story from a different family will keep the stories of our past vibrant and not allow these folks to fade away.
