With a smirk on his face, P-pop would say, “You think it’s cold here, Karen? When I grew up in Montana it was so cold a horse would take a piss and it would freeze before it reached the ground!”
This photo is actually my Grandfather on the Montana homestead! Yes, he said this phrase every winter. He was quite the storyteller, and truthfully while he was alive, we didn’t really believe it when he said things like this. We kinda thought he was “cute”. After his death we became very retrospective of the stories he would tell, especially after my parents took a trip to the old homestead and found out that this statement could literally be true in winter. We found ourselves wanting to know all the details of all his stories and remember them all. However, it was too late for the stories lost. Please, listen and write down the things your parents and grandparents tell you about your family history, you will never regret it!
The photos and stories are of Brown Bag Letter synchronized. To preserve personal history, my hope is that the anonymous photo and story from a different family will keep the stories of our past vibrant and not these folks to fade away.
